In Amethi, AAP's Kumar Vishwas invokes Rajiv Gandhi to take on Rahul
Kumar Vishwas, the Aam Aadmi Party's candidate contesting against Rahul Gandhi in Amethi
"Rajiv ji has also blessed me today... that I will shatter the dreams of the son who did not fulfill his dreams," Mr Vishwas said in Amethi, going big on symbolism as he launched his campaign for the national election, due by May.
He admits that money is a concern for his party, which relies on donations and has taken a strong stand against corporate money. So he plans to raise Rs. 2,014 from 1,200 villages in the constituency during a 42-day 'padyatra' from tomorrow.
"I will go from home to home, and sleep in villages," says the satirist turned politician, who had once mocked the Congress leader for eating and sleeping in Dalit homes for the benefit of TV cameras.
"I have done my calculations. You cannot win an election with money in Amethi. If I use one crore to contest an election, then I will be forced to earn Rs. 100 crore. This is how corruption begins. I will not do this." He declared that his party workers would be on the lookout for sting operations to catch anyone in the act of gifting liquor or money among voters.
Amethi, a largely rural constituency nearly 150 km from Lucknow, has elected Rahul Gandhi in 2004 and 2009. In the past, voters here have also elected Rahul's mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, father Rajiv and uncle, Sanjay Gandhi.
Mr Vishwas was in the first list of candidates announced on Sunday by the Aam Aadmi Party for the Lok Sabha polls, but he has been camping at Amethi for weeks now, hoping to be picked for this high profile battle.
Addressing a team of some 40 workers, Mr Vishwas said Amethi has never had elections, they have only had walkovers. Not anymore, he asserted.

In a hard hitting statement party’s secretary for political affairs Kanwar Pal Singh said Modi’s utterances that Hindu migrants should be allowed to enter from Bangladesh border and others to be thrown back reflected his communal trait. “India can’t have immigrant policy based on religion. Either immigrant’s are acceptable or unacceptable, irrespective of their religion, caste and creed”, said he, while taking a dig at BJP’s divisive and discriminative policies.
He said if after becoming PM, Modi was aiming at transforming India into a Hindu state in true sense, he could go ahead only after the Indian establishment allowed Punjab, Kashmir, Nagaland and Assam the right to secede. “The people of these states have time and again rejected the dominance of New Delhi and are actively seeking right to self-determination since 70’s”, he pointed out.
The organization leader also took serious view of Shiromani Akali Dal treating ‘turban’ as ‘topi’. Kanwarpal said the Badal duo had committed a blunder by placing tied turban on the head of Narendra Modi during his visit to Jagraon. The father and son had forgotten that turban was religious symbol and not just a cultural headgear. Akalis have diluted the sanctity of turban, said Singh and added it was disgusting and painful to see turbaned Modi.
He rued that the post of the Jathedar Akal Takht and SGPC head had become subservient to the chair of the chief minister otherwise their intervention could have been sought to end such a repeated sacrilege to the turban by the political class.

ਕੱਲ ਨਨਕਾਣਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਸਾਕੇ ਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਸੀ । ੧੯੨੧ ਵਿੱਚ ੨੦ ਫਰਵਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਈ ਲਛਮਣ ਸਿੰਘ, ਤੇ ਸਾਥੀ ਮਹੰਤ ਨਰੈਣੂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ । ੨੧ ਫਰਵਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰਦਵਾਰਾ ਜਨਮ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਚਾਬੀਆਂ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਸਨ, ਤੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ । ਅੱਜ ਦੀ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਤੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦੱਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਲਹੂ ਹੈ । ਪਰ ਅਫਸੋਸ ਅੱਜ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਜ਼ਾਤੀ ਗਰਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਆਸਤ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਦਵਾਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਮੁੜ੍ਹ "ਮਹੰਤੀ"ਸੋਚ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ । ਲਾਜਪੱਤ ਰਾਏ ਵਰਗੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਆਗੂ ਉਸ ਵਕਤ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਮਹੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਰਹੇ, ਅੱਜ ਉਸੀ ਸੋਚ ਦੀ ਵਾਰਿਸ ਆਰ ਐਸ ਐਸ ਤੇ ਬੀ ਜੇ ਪੀ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਆਸਤ ਤੇ ਧਰਮ ਤੇ ਹਾਵੀ ਹੈ । ਨਾਨਕ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਕੈਲੰਡਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਜਾਂ ਮਰਿਯਾਦਾ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਮਸਲਾ, ਫੈਸਲੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛ ਕੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਵਿਲੱਖਣ ਹੋਂਦ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਵੀਕਾਰਦੇ । ਬਾਦਲ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਤੇ ਸੰਘ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਕ ਨਾਪਾਕ ਰਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਦੀ ਵਿਲੱਖਣਤਾ ਦਾ ਮਲੀਆ ਮੇਟ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ । ਦਸਮ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦੇ "ਸੰਤ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ"ਦੀ ਸੋਚ ਤੋਂ ਬੇਮੁੱਖ ਹੋਏ ਕੁੱਝ ਡੇਰੇਦਾਰ ਵੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਹਨ ।
ਕੱਲ ਤੇ ਅੱਜ ਗੰਗੂ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਬਾਰ ਬਾਰ ਸੁਣਨ, ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਲਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । ਗੰਗੂ ਕਦੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਨਫਰਤ ਦਾ ਪਾਤਰ ਇਕ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਅੱਜ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਇਕ ਸੋਚ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਬਣ ਚੁੱਕਾ ਹੈ । ਮੈਂ ਕੱਲ ਇੱਕ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ, ਆਪਣੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ "ਗੰਗੂ ਦੀ ਰੂਹ"ਸਾਂਝੀ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ, ਸੋ ਅੱਜ ਸੱਭ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਮਿੱਤਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ । ਇਹ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਮੈਂ ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ੧੯੭੫/੭੬ ਿਵੱਚ ਲਿਖੀ ਸੀ, ਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਦੂਜੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ "ਗੰਗੂ ਦੀ ਰੂਹ"ਦੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਸੀ । ਮਿੱਤਰੋ ਕਬੂਲ ਕਰਿਓ, ਤੇ ਗੰਗੂ ਦੀ ਰੂਹ ਦੇ ਸਾਏ ਚੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਜੋ ਵੀ ਕਰ ਸਕੋ ਕਰਿਓ ।
